Skateboard Kings is a news documentary that was made by a British program called The World About Us in 1978. This episode is about the Skateboard Kings of Southern California, and in particular riders such as the World Champion Tony Alva are featured in their daily lives and exploits in and around DOGTOWN. Ray Flores, Billy Yeron, Paul Constantineau, Jerry Valdez, Shogo Kubo, Kent Senatore, Ellen O’neil, Bob Mohr, Elen Berryman, Kim Cespedes and others. Russ Howell and Stacy Peralta are featured in a bizzare freestyle and safety demonstration. La Costa segment with Henry Hester, Bob Skolberg and John Hutson. There’s visits to SkateBoarder Magazine, a few empty pools, a new skatepark, typical DogTown house party, demo’s, a visit to the infamous Arizona Pipes, and a skate board manufacturer. Hard to find classic.

The Strip - Sheringham Skatepark Design
It’s not rare to hear people using words like ‘rowdy’, ‘disrespectful’ and ‘a scourge on our streets’ when they talk about skateboarders.
But a new report published in the Journal of Adolescent Research paints a different picture.
It says Skateparks are positive places, which encourage civic responsibility and social skills.

- Thousands of other communities have come to understand the value of skateparks.
- Skating in a park is much safer than skating in the streets.
- The community already has hundreds, and maybe thousands of skateboarders.
- In the future there are going to be many legitimate places to skate in the city. The time to embark on that positive future is now.
- A skatepark is a place where skateboarders and other people who might not cross paths in the street can come together.

- Young and old people use skateparks.
- Skateparks support vibrant, healthy communities, just like many other athletic facilities.
- Skateboarding is mainstream.
- Skateboarding is a popular spectator sport.
- Skateparks are flexible in design and can work in many different size plots.
- The skatepark can be a place to go after school.
- Neighborhood skateparks allow younger skaters to recreate safely close to home.
- Skateboarding is happening with or without a skatepark.
- There are experts who can help the community plan out their next skatepark.
- The best time to start the new skatepark is today.
- If a city doesn’t have a skatepark, it is a skatepark.

Hairy Bob’s skatepark at Scarborough’s South Bay
“The park has been designed by skaters who know exactly what makes a good park for people of all skills. It sits in front of Hairy Bob’s cave, below the castle headland, right next to the ocean”

As we exited the urban assault vehicle and climbed the brow of Fisher Lane Park hill, the sun cast a crimson ribbon of light on what looked like a park sent from heaven.
Maverick has really out done themselves this time- with what was an originally a state side idea of having multi coloured crete (in this instance natural, red and black) to add an almost gastronomic slant to this small but yummy structure!
